Albums

Before the formation of Toto the group, members worked as sessions for other musicians. Drummer Jeff Porcaro, bassist David Hungate and keyboardist David Paich (the son of session drummer Marty Paich and brother of guitarist Joe Porcaro) played on Boz Scaggs 1975 album Silk Degrees. Toto was formed in 1976 following the collaboration.
Toto's third album, Turn Back, marked a departure from the more progressive sound of their earlier efforts and was criticized for its absence of hit singles. In 1985, lead singer Fergie Frederiksen quit the group, and the group held auditions for the new frontman. Guitarist Steve Lukather was chosen, and the band recorded the album Fahrenheit in 1986.
In 1998, Toto celebrated its 20th anniversary by scouring through old tapes and demos to release a special edition called Toto XX. The album was well-received by fans and the band embarked upon an extensive tour with former members Bobby Kimball Steve Porcaro and Joseph Williams.
Shem Von Schröck replaced Leland Sklar as the drummer during the tour in support of the 40 Trips Around the Sun album. In 2017, Toto released a double-CD live set titled Falling in Between, which included live recordings from the tour and an interview with Toto.

In 1983, the group released Toto IV, which earned an international acclaim. The group embarked on an international tour to promote the album after its success. During the tour, Bobby Kimball, the lead vocalist, was arrested for drug charges. The band decided to let him go at the end of the tour and then hired singer/guitarist Joseph Williams in his place. Drummer David Hungate also left the band following the tour. Leland Sklar replaced him.
The TOTO Museum is an impressive modern building with a variety of exhibit rooms that are devoted to telling the story about the company and its most innovative product. Before and during the formation of Toto the members performed session work for many artists. Toto was formed following Jeff Porcaro, bassist David Hungate and Boz Scaggs recorded Silk Degrees. Keyboardist Paich was a regular on records by Steely Dan, Seals and Crofts, and Sonny and Cher.
In 1998, Toto began working on a special project called Old Is New. The album featured three new tracks, as well as several recordings of older songs. The album was a hit across the globe and the band embarked on a world tour to promote it.

The album, released on the 6th of November, 2018 included three brand new tracks from their forthcoming album 40 Trips Around the Sun as well as completed recordings of four previously released tracks featuring Jeff Porcaro playing drums and Mike or Steve Porcaro playing bass. The album included the cover version of Weezer's song “Hash Pipe” which the band re-released after hearing it on the radio.
