Albums

Before the formation of Toto the group, members worked as sessions for other musicians. Toto was formed in 1976 following the collaboration.

Toto's third album, Turn Back, marked a departure from the more progressive sound of their earlier efforts and was criticized for its absence of hit singles. In 1985, lead singer Fergie Frederiksen quit the group, and the group held auditions for the new frontman. Guitarist Steve Lukather was chosen, and the band recorded the album Fahrenheit in 1986.

In 1998, Toto celebrated its 20th anniversary by scouring through old tapes and demos to release a special edition called Toto XX. The album was well-received by fans and the band embarked upon an extensive tour with former members Bobby Kimball Steve Porcaro and Joseph Williams.

Shem Von Schröck replaced Leland Sklar as the drummer during the tour in support of the 40 Trips Around the Sun album. In 2017, Toto released a double-CD live set titled Falling in Between, which included live recordings from the tour and an interview with Toto.

Drummer David Hungate also left the band following the tour. Leland Sklar replaced him.
